Mindful Minute Challenge FAQ

Here are answers to the most common Challenge-related questions.

Do I need a Ten Percent Happier account to participate in the Mindful Minute Challenge?

Yes. You can either use an existing account or register for a new account via the Mindful Minute Challenge sign-up link. Your account is free to set up and you can use any email address when registering on the Ten Percent Happier app.

Do I need an iPhone to participate? 

You will need either an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 or above. We have an Android app out, but it can not be used to register for or participate in the challenge. If you only have access to an Android device and would like Premium Access, please contact support+apple@tenpercent.com for assistance.

Do I need an Apple Watch for this challenge?

No, an Apple Watch is not required to earn mindful minutes for this challenge. If you do have one, then using the Ten Percent Happier Apple Watch app or the Breathe app is an easy way to log mindful minutes.

Do I get access to all of the premium content on Ten Percent Happier?

Yes. By signing up for this challenge, you’ll have access to all of the content on Ten Percent Happier for one year. This is a $99.99 value.

I accidentally signed up for a Ten Percent Happier “Free Trial” while getting setup for the challenge. How do I cancel it?

You’ll need to cancel this subscription in iTunes. You can find instructions and a link to manage your Apple subscriptions from this Apple webpage: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202039. You can also follow these steps from your device:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad

  2. Tap Your Name at the top of the screen

  3. Tap iTunes & App Stores

  4. Tap your Apple ID

  5. Tap View Apple ID

  6. You may be asked to enter your password, Touch ID or Facial Recognition

  7. Scroll down and tap "Subscriptions"

  8. Select the Ten Percent Happier subscription

  9. Scroll down and tap "Cancel Subscription" (and confirm your cancellation) to disable it from auto-renewing

If you’re properly in the challenge, you’ll continue to have access for the full year (a $99.99 value) and you won’t be charged. If you did not cancel during the trial period and have already been billed for a full subscription, you'll need to request a refund through http://reportaproblem.apple.com/ (we, unfortunately, are not able to issue refunds processed through iTunes).

I tapped the link to join the challenge but I still do not see the challenge dashboard in my Ten Percent Happier app.

You may need to re-tap the link in the confirmation email from Wellness that was sent to you which should get you into the challenge.

Can I use any meditation app for this challenge?

You can use any meditation app that shares a mindful minute with the Health app.

How do the medals work?

You will be auto-selected into whichever medal category you match to, based on your average number of minutes meditated per day. If you meditate 1 or more minutes a day, on average, you'll be on track for bronze, 5 or more minutes a day, on average, you'll be on track for silver, and if you meditate 10 or more minutes a day, on average, you'll be on track for gold.

I didn’t get credit for a meditation I did. What should I do?

If you’re using Ten Percent Happier:

  • If it’s a technical glitch (e.g. you saw the minutes before but don’t anymore), try force quitting the Ten Percent Happier app. If this doesn't fix the issue, it’s best to email support+apple@tenpercent.com 

  • If you complete a meditation (or part of a meditation) and never see credit for it in the challenge dashboard, you can manually add these minutes using the Health app. Here are instructions:

    • First, make sure Ten Percent Happier is sharing data with the Health app: Open the Health App --> Sources tab --> Ten Percent Happier --> make sure both “Read” and “Write” toggles are enabled. 

    • Then log the minutes: Open the Heath app --> Health Data tab --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> tap the “+” icon at the top right --> select the date and time you meditated (and be careful not to log a multi-day meditation; you need to change both dates for this to work properly).

If you’re using another mindfulness app:

  • First, make sure whichever app you're using is sharing data with the Health app: Open the Health App --> Sources tab --> select whichever app you're using and ensure it has permissions. (Note: if you don't see the app you’re using on this list, you need to go into the app you’re using and find the setting that allows you to to share data with the Health app.)

  • Then, make sure Ten Percent Happier is sharing data with the Health app: Open the Health App --> Sources tab --> Ten Percent Happier --> make sure both “Read” and “Write” toggles are enabled.

How do I manually log Mindful Minutes?

 You can manually log mindful minutes using the Health app. (This is particularly useful if you're practicing on your own, or using an app that doesn't integrate with the Health app.)

  • First, make sure Ten Percent Happier is sharing data with the Health app: Open the Health App --> Sources tab --> Ten Percent Happier --> make sure both “Read” and “Write” toggles are enabled. 

  • Then log the minutes: Open the Heath app --> Health Data tab --> Mindfulness --> Mindful Minutes --> tap the “+” icon at the top right --> select the date and time you meditated (and be careful not to log a multi-day meditation; you need to change both dates for this to work properly).

I’m doing the Challenge on multiple devices, but they aren’t syncing!

Unfortunately, we don’t fully support cross-device sync in this year’s Challenge. Your best bet will be to do the Challenge on a single device. This is on our future roadmap!

Are there teams in this challenge?

There are no teams in this challenge. You’ll be a part of the greater Apple team.

How can I add friends to My Circle?

Mindful meditation may not be a team sport, but now you and your favorite coworkers can invite each other to join a Circle. Launch the Challenge dashboard in the Ten Percent Happier app and tap “Invite a Friend.” For each coworker you add, you’ll see the number of days meditated and the average meditation time. You can then send them fun “nudge” emojis or messages to encourage participation and support each other. 

How do I send nudges to friends in My Circle?

You can send nudges of encouragement to your teammates by tapping their name in the Challenge dashboard of the Ten Percent Happier app.

Can I remove a friend that I added to the Challenge?

Yes - you can. Scroll down the Challenge screen until you see the friend you want to remove, then swipe left on their name. This will remove them from your circle, as well as removing you from their circle. You’ll no longer be able to see each others’ progress or send each other nudges.

Can I invite a non-Apple employee to the Mindful Minute Challenge?

No. This is a private challenge for Apple employees only.  Non-Apple employees will not be able to get a passkey and enter the challenge. But feel free to encourage family and friends to join you for a mindful minute, or two. 

I'm having trouble remembering to meditate. How can I get more notifications? 

In the Ten Percent Happier app: go into the Profile tab, tap on the gear icon in the upper righthand corner, and make sure the “Remind me to meditate” option is turned on. 

In the Breathe app on your Watch: go into the Watch app on your iPhone and open the Breathe app preferences. You can then increase your Breathe reminders and edit the haptics.   

Will Apple see any of my information?

The only information that Apple will receive from Ten Percent Happier is your unique key. If you complete a mindful minute recorded in Ten Percent Happier at least 25 of 31 days, your unique key will be returned to Wellness so that we can identify you and fulfill any rewards you earned.
