May 29, 2020

Sebene Selassie is a teacher, author, and speaker who explores the themes of belonging and identity through meditation, creativity, and spirituality.

The physical toll of COVID-19 has been devastating, but federal agencies along with medical experts say the country is on the verge of another crisis: mental health. Last week, a Census Bureau survey revealed a third of Americans now show signs of clinical anxiety or depression, representing a huge jump from before the pandemic. The Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 confidential support to people in crisis via texting. They respond to thousands of texts each day from people experiencing mental or emotional distress. Their motto is “if it’s a crisis to you, it’s a crisis to us.” The organization has partnered with several non-profits to create The Mental Health Fund. All donations contribute to crisis intervention for people dealing with everything from anxiety to substance abuse or other mental health challenges.
